About the Aven Court

Aven Court features four-plex independent senior one-bedroom housing units. These units are designed for seniors who wish to live independently. Each unit offers a comfortable living space with essential amenities.

Aven Court units are subsidized due to a funding partnership with NWT Housing Corporation as long as your income is within the Core Net Income Threshold (CNIT) which is currently set at $60,400 by the government.

Aven Court FAQ

Discover Everything You Need to Know About Our Independent Subsidized Living Options in Yellowknife.

How does the waitlist work?

Our waitlist utilizes a tiered system grounded in fairness, assessing applicants on eligibility factors such as residency and financial need for subsidized housing. Once qualified, applicants are waitlisted by application date, with subsidized placements reflecting the most significant needs, all guided by GNWT’s CNIT.

If I am already eligible for a subsidized unit, why am I required to submit my net worth information?

Information on net worth is considered as one of the factors for the ranking exercise to help determine need.

Is there a wait list for AVENS Independent Housing Units?

Yes - AVENS is dedicated to a transparent and just waitlist system for housing, prioritizing applicants by clear criteria and need. Our process is rigorously evaluated annually and subjected to regular audits by an independent agency, ensuring our standards are consistently upheld.

Why do I have to provide medical information from my doctor or nurse practitioner to be on the waitlist?

Independence is one of the criteria for eligibility at AVENS. This criteria is consistent with an individual who is assessed at no higher than Level 1 on the “Levels of Service Needs in Continuing Care” published by GNWT.

Is the process fair and equitable?

Founded on fairness, our housing application process includes legal vetting and external reviews. It’s regularly audited for transparency and accountability, demonstrating our commitment to equitable housing allocation.

What if my financial, medical, or other factors change while on the wait-list?

Informing AVENS of changes impacting your application is crucial; the DOCH will review and possibly re-score your file. We safeguard your identity with numerical identifiers, maintaining transparency and accountability.
