Aven Court FAQ

Discover Everything You Need to Know About Our Independent Subsidized Living Options in Yellowknife.

How does the waitlist work?

Our waitlist is grounded in the principles of fairness, respect, dignity and collaboration through assessing applicants on several eligibility factors. Aven Court is subsidized housing funded through a partnership with Housing NT. Applicants are assessed based on their needs including financial, safety and suitability. The waitlist is updated every month to reflect the current needs of the applicants.

If I am on the waitlist, why do I have to update my information?

Every year, applicants are required to provide updated notice of assessment and medical forms to ensure their application reflects the most up to date information.

Is there a wait list for AVENS Independent Housing Units?

AVENS has waitlists for Aven Court, Aven Ridge and Aven Pavilion. AVENS process is guided by subsidized, market and affordable housing policies. Our process is rigorously evaluated annually and subjected to regular audits by an independent agency, ensuring our standards are consistently upheld.

Why do I have to provide medical information from my doctor or nurse practitioner to be on the waitlist?

Independence is one of the criteria for eligibility to reside in AVENS independent housing units. This criteria is derived from the “Levels of Service Needs in Continuing Care” published by Government of Northwest Territories. An individual who is assessed at no higher than Level 1 on the scale is considered independent.

Is the process fair and equitable?

Founded on fairness, our housing application process includes legal vetting and external reviews. It’s regularly audited for transparency and accountability, demonstrating our commitment to equitable housing allocation.

What if my financial, medical, or other factors change while on the waitlist?

Informing AVENS of changes impacting your application is crucial to ensuring the information provided is accurate and up to date.
