AVEN Cottages was opened to residents in March 2010. Aven Cottages are specifically designed to care for people living with dementia or other cognitive impairment. This project was funded by the Government of the NWT and the Department of Health Social and Services. The facility was built in conjunction with partners Diavik Diamond Mines Inc. and Nahanni Construction Ltd. Funding for the operation and maintenance of the facility is through the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority.
The secure facility consists of two Cottages (Redwood and Cedar). Each having 14 private rooms situated around a central core consisting of a dining room, kitchen & living room area.
Accreditation Canada is a not-for-profit, independent organization that provides national and international health care organizations with an external peer review process to assess and improve services based on standards of excellence.

Visit WebsiteAdmissions to Aven Cottages is administered through the Department of Health and Social Services’ Territorial Admissions Committee (TAC). Applicants who are interested should contact their local Health and Social Services Case Manager, or Home Care Case Worker who will help coordinate the application process.
The applicant’s physician will be involved in completing the application package.
